Sarasota Government Officials
Do You Really Care About Your Constituents Enough To Do What is Right?
This page is directed to any of the government officials from the state on down to the municipality who are interested enough to care what their constituents think. It is also directed at those who make these inequitable and unconstitutional laws to take notice that something needs to be done to rectify these situations hereinbefore mentioned on this protest.
You are in office because you were either hired or voted into that position under the mandate to protect the safety, health, and welfare of the homeowners but on the other hand, you were not mandated to violate their constitutional rights which is being done by following the letter of the law.
While it is important to follow the “Letter of the “Law“, you also need to realize why the “Spirit of the Law” is equally just as important. This is mandated by the fact, that it is difficult to pass a law that equally affects “all” people. Even the Bill of Rights reflects this in the fact that there are already a number of amendments to the Constitution with no guarantee that none will be added in the future.
It’s Not A Slippery Slope
If you are concerned about creating a “Slippery Slope” to justify any inaction on correcting an unconstitutional law….so be it. Lawmakers are complicit in these laws and those who have the power to make them are hereby mandated to correct them no matter how inconvenient. That’s the penalty for those who crafted such a law and who need to admit their error and rectify it….even to the point of restitution to those who were unjustifiably injured in some manner. If they are not so penalized, they will feel free to create more “discriminatory and unconstitutional” laws in the future.
What is totally abhorrent is the fact that the legislature on down the ladder of lawmakers always use the same tired, outmoded, and platitudinous phrase of justifying whatever law, rule, etc. that they are implementing and doing it under the guise of “protecting the safety, health, and welfare of the public.” Why do you think the public needs these meaningless, thoughtless, and hackneyed justifications? To really protect the safety, health, and welfare of the public also means that you need to get rid of these abhorrent laws.
Do those of you to who pass these objectionable laws and rules do so only because you apparently think that the public won’t notice nor be able to gather together enough opposition to protest it? Well, there comes a point when that just isn’t true. A day of reckoning is just around the corner when this peaceful protest will cause a change in the status quo.
To those of you who were voted into office and who will embrace the will of the people, please have the courage to “PUBLICLY ” announce your stand, “before the coming November elections“, of your intentions and support on matters like “Sui’s Protest” so that we voters can judge you at polls this year.
To those of you who were “hired” into your present position, take heed of the admonitions herein-above stated. You and will also need to respond to the will of the people or for competent and conscientious supervisors to put people in your position who can protect homeowners by also exercising the “Spirit of the Law.”
